PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Ahead of securing Series C, Shopmonkey leadership decided it was time to take the company to the next level visually and directed the Design and Marketing teams to execute an entire rebrand. The goal was to have Shopmonkey stand out amongst competitors and in the industry at large. A key piece of the Shopmonkey brand is represented through my illustration work, both in the product and in marketing assets, so I recommended that the illustration style be overhauled as well.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
A number of Shopmonkey’s competitors had begun to pick up on Shopmonkey’s use of illustrations and used stock illustrations in their brand. To further differentiate ourselves and be more difficult to copy, I proposed we mirror our customers more by creating illustrations that portrayed more facial expressions, expressive gestures, and personality. The result were characters that were more indicative of our customer base and a departure from easily-copied expressionless characters.
